Our elders are the pillars of our community!
In 2024 Mater Angelo reached dozens with dedicated support. Nigeria is home to over 9.4 million people aged 60 and above, underscoring the urgent need for elder care. Our compassionate teams visit seniors in their homes, providing medical checkups, nutritious meals, and companionship. Each visit can be life-changing in a country with only 1 doctor per 10,000 people and 97% of the population lacking health insurance.
In Enugu state,
Mama Okeke (82) sums it up: “
They helped me stand on my own feet again,” she says, recalling our last home visit. Volunteers like Chioma ensure seniors take their medicine on time and enjoy a warm meal together. These personal moments of a listening ear and a caring hand bring smiles to many faces.
In 2024, Mater Angelo’s Elderly Care program conducted 250 home visits and mobile clinic sessions (up 30% from 2023), distributing 200 mobility aids (canes and walkers), and organizing 50 social gatherings for isolated seniors. These efforts support national goals for senior inclusion, as the Nigerian government’s National Senior Citizens Centre has launched caregiver training programs to improve elders’ quality of life. We invite you to join us. Please, volunteer a few hours, donate to our elders’ care fund, or subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
Together, we can ensure that every senior is treated with dignity, love, and respect.
