Health education is at the heart of community empowerment.
Many Nigerians have no regular access to doctors in fact there is only about 1 doctor for every 10,000 people, so knowledge is the first line of defense.
In 2024, Mater Angelo held 20 community workshops on nutrition, hygiene, and maternal care in rural clinics and schools. Our volunteers “educate communities about nutrition, family planning, sanitation, and maternal and child health”, teaching simple steps that prevent disease. By turning medical advice into everyday language, we help families stay healthy and informed.
At one outreach in a rural village, young mother Aisha learned how to manage her diabetes and now teaches her neighbours what she has learnt. She said our session “gave me hope, I now know how to keep my children safe.” Stories like Aisha’s highlight how education breaks cycles of illness. As public health experts note, empowering people with information and resources leads to healthier choices and stronger communities.
Our 2024 impact includes reaching over 2,000 people through school programs and market fairs, distributing 500 hygiene kits, and establishing 10 school health clubs. Every life we touch matters. We invite you to join our outreach efforts: become a volunteer health educator, donate supplies for our workshops, or subscribe to our newsletter to hear about upcoming health fairs. Together, we can build a healthier tomorrow by giving every community the tools to thrive.
