Every caregiver starts with a willingness to learn.
In 2024, Mater Angelo’s Caregiver Training program brought together 50 aspiring caregivers for a comprehensive course in compassionate care. In a country where geriatric care education is scarce, our program offers workshops in first aid, patient communication, and daily living support. This aligns with national priorities: Nigeria’s Senior Citizens Centre emphasizes caregiver training to address the shortage of skilled professionals. By equipping youth and volunteers with practical skills, we build a stronger safety net for elders and vulnerable people alike. One graduate, Chiamaka (24), found new purpose through our program. “I learned how to bathe and comfort my sick uncle safely,” she recalls. After training, she started a local homecare service, proudly helping seniors in her neighborhood. Her story shows how knowledge gives confidence and how a single training session can change lives. Our 2024 workshops trained 300 participants (a 20% increase over last year) and certified 25 community health aides. Alumni are now volunteering in hospitals and care homes across Enugu State. You can be part of this mission: volunteer as a mentor, donate to expand our training courses, or subscribe to our newsletter for upcoming classes. Together we empower Nigeria’s caregivers with the skills and compassion needed to make a real difference.
